Hi

My nephew is a Arsenal Fan and is 8 years old, he wants to go to his first Football Match. I am a Reading Follower but live in Nottingham at present and havnt been to see them in about 6 years.

I would like to take him to see Reading vs Arsenal in 2007-2008 but I have no idea how to get tickets.

I checked on the website and it said that there are 2,500 tickets avaliable but the rest go to season ticket holders. The only problem is that you also have to have enough points to get some of the 2,500.

Now I know that I tickets are not avaliable until the fixture list is produced for next season, and certain proceedures may change, but what is the format os someone like me getting hold of tickets?

Get a Member Card for yourself (£10) and nephew (£3). Unfortunately Arsenal is a high demand game so it's unlikely you'll get 1 with such a low points total but if you go to any games before that you'll have accumulated points.

Another way to get points is to join STAR but that's a different matter

I am afraid that the current success of Reading means that the old days of gettting a ticket whenever you want one are gone. The advice of getting a membercard and building points by getting to games whenever you can is the only real way of accumulating the number of points that thousands and thousands of other fans who want to come to the Arsenal game already have.

Your only hope is that a lot of season ticket holders do not renew next season so that there are more tickets for non-season ticket holders but even then you will always be down the pecking order.

The other way is to throw money at it and see if you can get places in hospitality - the restaurant or the 1871 lounge etc - where you get a seat and food but at a much greater cost. I am not sure when these go on sale and they will also be oversubscribed but as far as I know it is first come first served and not dependent on Royalty points. Certainly last season it was offered to us as a solution to exiles who are, for instance, visiting this country and want to catch a Reading game; however that was the previous sales manager and so I will check if this is still the case.

There should be more seating available next season as well which will help to a degree (+ if we're crap next season all the plastics will disappear anyway apart from those that really support Arsenal) so ticket availability will be a bit easier - still expact a sell out for these games.

As mentioned above getting a member card is essential and trying to make it along to one of the pre-season friendlies at the Mad Stad in August would be a start as the club would be bound to give 20 odd points or someting which would help start you off so you're at least not waiting for General Sale all the time.

Does RFC have to 'reserve' so many hospitality 'seats' to away clubs? I know they do allocate some (as they release the unused ones a week or so before a game).. but are they required to by the FA/Prem?

Except that last season the "big pre-season friendly" was us giving a guarandeed sum to a big club, so the points were there to ensure a certain income to meet that guarantee.

We are now the big club, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us playing the "big pre-season friendly" away at a smaller club, with them paying us a guarantee before we'll agree to play.

That is a very interesting idea. I suppose that people would apply for tickets before a cut off date with tickets being allocated randomly but with everyone that applied receiving royalty points.
