Help please on Thursday evening

Would any STAR members who could spare an hour or so on Thursday evening come and help put the renewal forms into envelopes please. It will be an opportunity to discuss football in the close season with fellow Reading fans and help us to get the thousands of envelopes into the postal system as quickly as possible.

We are starting at 7pm and will be in the Kennet Room at the Madejski, if you want more info or let me know you are coming please email me at info@star-reading.org.

I know it is a stupid question but with 4000 members could STAR not use a mailing company for this tedious task?

cheaper i would agree, but a tad harsh on those that volunteer, there must be a mailing agancy in Reading that could do a deal for a good cause, in return for a touch of goodwill and advertising.

I feel is unfair to ask so many folk to do a task for nowt to benefit the many.

It is cheaper and if we stay this big we may look into the cost of a mailing service but it has not been cost effective before and it really can be a fun evening for those with withdrawal symptoms from the footy friends.

I find your comment about asking folk to do a task for nowt very interesting. You obviously see things very differently from me if you will never do a task for nowt in monetary terms (the only basis I can see for the comment) and would quote JFK at you. The idea of what you can give others rather than what they give you is powerful and rewarding in so many other ways that if you cannot see it you are really missing out. But then I would say that as I do give a lot to STAR for no monetary reward, even as per our last discussion relating to beer at monetary cost to me, and find the membership of STAR worth much more than the membership benefits.

I don't see why not - we usually try to retrieve our own forms to save the postage.

Well they shouldn't volunteer then.

Perhaps someone has a envelope stuffing machine at their place of work that they could enquire about using? I've seen one used to send thousands of credit control letters out, You stick the letters in one slot and stick a load of window envelopes in the other, press a button and it sticks one in each envelope.

Hmm... Perhaps Reading FC have one and if not, Maybe they should get one.

Quite agree - so why when I ask for help do you suggest that we should spend money rather than encourage the many to come along and contribute?

We are considered to be good in the Supporters Trust movement in the number of volunteers we get at STAR, but even more would be a whole lot better. both for STAR and the volunteers.

I didn't ask for help on here for it but thanks again to the 20 people who responded to our E-STAR by coming last night to help send out the membership cards for those who renewed by post.

It was nice to see some familiar faces and some newer volunteers and gave us all a chance to see how green the pitch is now as we worked in the Directors Lounge.
