Almost inevitably - we don't have the resources or the marketing power to push people to the site like Premium TV (Virgin Media as they are now) and the football clubs do.

We'd never be able to compete with them - and frankly we'd never even try - because their website is seen as a revenue earner whereas we've never positioned the STAR website as anything more than a limited information resource.

Impressive increase in membership last season, 3000 to over 4000. Would have thought someone would have arranged to have the envelopes collected though, rather than shoved into pillar boxes all over the place, I feel sure the PO could arrange that, so long as was not a strike day!!

Nice to get a deeper view of whats going on rather than just a news headline on the STAR (Supporters Trust At Reading) site.

Premium TV are not part of Virgin Media as it has been owned by a turnaround group since 2002 (were part of NTL prior to that). Now just been bought by Access Industries (US Group)

The PO will only arrange such things if you do them regularly, but we only do this once a year so they're not that interested. It's easier to split the load and take the pain once a year, rather than spend lots of time trying to sort something like this out.

It's a valid point though - there are lots of things we could do better, but there are relatively few of us (all with jobs to do, too!) and we're trying to do so much that we sometimes miss out on ways to improve processes.

I bow to your superior knowledge on the subject. I knew Premium TV used to be part of NTL, and I knew NTL is now Virgin Media, but I missed the split-off.

It looks like Virgin Media is now just a customer of Premium TV, as PTV will be doing the setup and presentation of the Virgin Voice football service to be launched in the next few weeks.

At the last meeting we did talk about it and no-one knew anything about how the fans team had got on, so as we also often find, it is all a matter of communication

Isn't that what pillar boxes are for? As it happens it was a strike day and even if not someone would have had to take all of them home (a mammoth task as the pile was quite high) as the PO do not collect at 10pm. It is also true that we had some PO sacks to take them directly to the PO but so many people offered to post them that we used that option - no big deal.

I didn't think you worked as a postie but your obsession with the way we sent out renewal notices does seem a little worrying unless you have changed employment

The author of the blog is still awaiting some photos of the presentation before it can be properly publicised.

Plus blogs are by definition regular events, so there's all season to write these things in, and he didn't want to use up all the big stories in the first one. Perhaps he's waiting until after the Cambridge Tournament (for which STAR is sponsoring the Fans' Team's match fees) to cover this area of our involvement.

Plus the author of the blog only gets 1000 words and had to leave other things out in this one - like not mentioning the STAR AGM on August 16th!
