Vuvuzelas at the MadStad - Yes or No?

Just as the 1986 World Cup gave the world the Mexican Wave, this world cup is likely to give it the vulvuzela.

It's all very well in Africa, but how about back in the UK? People will bring them back from South Africa or buy them in the UK, and inevitably will want to take them to matches in the UK. How do you feel about these at the MadStad?

What's more important? The right of people to make whatever noise they like at games or the rights of other people not to have others making such a noise next to them?

Most people on here get annoyed when the bloke with the drum makes a noise let alone the noise from an advanced kazoo (or comb and paper).

On the plus side it's bloody annoying for away fans to have to listen to it
On the negative side it's bloody annoying for the home fans to have to listen to it

Spacey has a point though Dirk, Waves have been a staple of US sports since the 1970s at the very least - I first saw them on C4's early 1980s gridiron coverage. Which countries refer to Waves as Mexican Waves? Just the UK perhaps?

Anyway, a yes to vuvuzelas from me. I am considering selling them on the interweb.

It will be interesting to see how different clubs respond.

Only problem I can see is if people don't use them properly i.e failing to point them up into the sky away from the head of the person in front. The club will need to make sure people are aware of the requirement to point them upwards. Also they mustn't be used outside of matchplay - due to the fact announcements are being made and spectators are likely to be standing/in transit.

Also if the club needs to make an announcement during play then it will sound the chimes and all vuvuzela noise must stop on hearing the chimes until the announcement has been made.

Granted, they may add something to give this particular World Cup - a bit of local flavour, but its not Readings, or even Englands flavour. We sing, we chant, we clap, we have a drum, we boo, sometimes, when its really sh1t, we don't make any noise, but thats how we support football in our way, isn't it. I have brought many people from overseas to Reading games and I watch a fair bit here in Oz. Our atmosphere at games in England is special and should be treasured. Don't ruin it.
