End Of Season Awards 2006/2007 Season

Ivar Ingimarsson has been voted Hob Nob Anyone? player of the season for 2006/2007 but nearly had to share his award with Nicky Shorey who finished a close second. Those two players took nearly 80% of the vote between them, reflecting Reading's excellent defensive performance all season long in the Royals' first ever season in the top tier. Both players played the vast majority of a very successful season with Ingimarsson being solid throughout. Mistakes made by Ivar are certainly very hard to remember. Shorey's call up to the England squad helped him a get a late surge of votes. Following the close of voting Shorey went on to make his England debut - playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 friendly draw with Brazil at Wembley.

There was only one contender in the most improved player of the season category. Stephen Hunt was a clear winner with no-one even close. Hunt took over two thirds of the vote to beat second place Ulises De la Cruz by 64%! Hunt had a superb season when he wasn't even expected to feature this year. He more than featured, becoming a vital first team regular. Some players might have crumbled after the unfair negative press following that Chelsea game, but Hunt went from strength to strength.

There were clear winners in the performances of the season category. It was no suprise to see the 6-0 home demolition of West Ham voted as the best Reading performance of the season. The famous first day of the season comeback victory against Midlesbrough, when Reading won 3-2 from 0-2 down was in second place. There was only one real disappointment during an amazingly successful season, and that was the home defeat against bottom of the table Watford. Everyone expected us to win that and we ended up going down 0-2, which effectively cost us a UEFA cup qualification place. It wasa rare low point and earned over half of the vote.

After a phenomenal first Premiership season that passed all expectations, Reading fans are confident we'll comfortably survive again next season. Virtually everyone voted that the Royals will survive, although most people thought we might struggle to match last season's top eight finish.

Votes were collected between 16 May 2007 and 31 May 2007.
All result figures are expressed as percentages of the total vote.
