+1 and it isn't an automatic 12 point deduction anyway.Old Man Andrews wrote:Well worth a new thread in the Reading FC section.Lower West wrote:Automatic 12 point deduction.
The sanction will be applied at the end of this season if the Latics, 14th in the Championship, finish outside the bottom three after 46 games.
Should Wigan finish in the relegation zone, the penalty will be applied during the 2020-21 season instead.

Last time I checked the table, they're still 14th on 50 points.Lower West wrote:Automatic 12 point deduction.

Mandatory 12 point deduction but timing thereof to be decided at the end of the season depending on where Wigan finish in the table. Either way it looks as though they have unfortunately booked themselves one of the three relegation slots.Hendo wrote:Lower West wrote:"The English Football League has said Wigan will be deducted 12 points."Hendo wrote:

I'd assume yes. That's how the penalty would normally be applied irrespective of league position (say, had they gone into administration in September). The punishment is the points deduction, not relegation - the deduction is just delayed if they are relegated without it.windermereROYAL wrote:Will they still be deducted the 12 points if they finish more than 12 points clear of the drop zone?
Enough about Reading, what do you think about Wigan?Westwood52 wrote:A poorly supported Club, with low fan base. They have been punching above their weight for years.

Doesn`t that defeat the object?, they could 20 points clear, go into administration and then no punishment. my take on it is if they avoid relegation they will start next season minus 12 points.Nameless wrote:You would assume wrong.Sanguine wrote:I'd assume yes. It’s no punishment if at this stage they lose the points and avoid relegation.

To be fair, it IS an automatic 12 point deduction. The only issue is WHEN it's appliedHendo wrote:+1 and it isn't an automatic 12 point deduction anyway.Old Man Andrews wrote:Well worth a new thread in the Reading FC section.Lower West wrote:Automatic 12 point deduction.
