Baby steps. After 3 or so seasons wallowing in the bottom 3rd, it would be a sign we are making some progress and gives us a chance to target a top 10 spot, which until Gomes left looked very unlikely.

yeah that pretty much. McIntyre just looks ready. Olise has been knocking around for a while now, and again has slotted in fine. The likes of Osho and Southowood should have enough experience now to come in as and when required

This 100%, well said "Nameless" McIntyre is a star in the making and at 21 is easily fit and strong enough to be playing week in week out. We have put ourselves into a poor financial position from having suposedly rich owners and buying so called superstars that hasn't worked out!!
Now we are in a bad place and all our assets are being sold to balance the books. However, we do have one saving grace that could well keep our heads above water, our "Academy".
We have seen over the last few years that some of these academy players are ready and chom ping at the bit to make the step up into the first team and have proved that they are more than capable.
You don't always have to go out and buy big name players, sometimes the answer is their right in front of us at the academy...we just have to show a bit of faith in these guys.

Whilst I agree you don’t always need to go out and spend big, there’s a balance to be recognised. It’s a bloody tough league and you need some quality in depth.

We started this season with the majority academy players being given a chance, it didn’t go too well and we shelled out on another 5 loans / signings just before deadline day when we realised the youngsters weren’t up to it.

We simply cannot follow that model next season, hopefully we can integrate a few academy players and do some shrewd business over the summer.

Don't think that's an accurate description of what happened.

Our signings were late because we were under a transfer embargo, not because we chose to play the kids instead. We started badly not because we chose to play the kids but because Gomes couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery let alone a defence once the new season started. Moore and Virginia were probably the worst performers at the start, not any Academy players.

We started the season with 4 Academy players in the side. One was a previous year's PotS, one had been playing semi-regularly for two seasons already, one was the highly rated Loader, and the 4th was Barrett who got an assist.

Olise and Nova came on too, but Olise has been up to it all season and Nova got 6 minutes at the end when we were losing and awful.

By the second game we had just 2 Academy players in the line up. By the third it was 1.
