Laurent was excellent last season - top drawer for a lot of it.

Performances this season have been way off in the midfield though - added very little yesterday
First time I've seen a game with him and Drinkwater playing alongside each other and I came away thinking they can't play together. Too similar and want to take the same positions on the pitch. Felt like we could have done with Rino's extra energy next to Drinkwater, but he also makes different runs and positions. However, I would have subbed Drinkwater instead of Puscas, let TDB play centrally, and then let Laurent sit a bit deeper to protect the back four.

Drinkwater was blowing after about 25 minutes, and made John Swift look like Usain Bolt, as he kept treading water as he tried to get back to cover their midfield runners

Decided to take a quick look at stats for each.

Vydra:

3 in 31 for Reading - 1 in 10
65 in 187 total for Championship - 1 in 3

Grabban

3 in 16 for Reading - 1 in 5
82 in 214 total for Championship - 1 in 3

Sharp

2 in 10 for Reading - 1 in 5
118 in 335 total for Championship - 1 in 3

Not great reading
Vydra tried hard but just didn’t seem to get the luck
Grabban was usually played out of position
Not sure about Sharp, seem to recall he played a number of games as sub but looked decent when he did play, enjoyed his winner at Huddersfield.

Overall, since Brian’s first run as manager came to an end, it’s quite incredible what a stint at Reading has done for some strikers
but then other strikers have come in and done well - Yann and Joao for example

Does seem that we've brought in strikers which aren't really suited to how we play at times hence why they've failed. Vydra scored quite a few in the cup that year didnt he? But yeah he had a dreadful record in the league

Very true.

Vydra got 6 in 5 cup games, included a hat trick against Huddersfield (I think?).

Vydra got stuck out on the left by Clarke where he wasn't at all suited. Went on a predictable barren run as a result. Confidence shattered and Dellor led a fan witch hunt against him so when he did actually play in his proper position he was shot mentally and could barely kick a ball any longer.

Classic fragile mentality badly handled.

You could add Aluko to that list.

93 games for Reading - 6 goals.
6 games for Ipswich - 3 goals.

I know that Ipswich are League 1, but even so........

Here is a great stat. Blackpool had more attempts on goal and on target than all there previous away games put together.

Agreed

They didn't look a good fit

But then it takes a bit of time to get an understanding
