Gus Atkinson in the Surrey side for today's game with Essex.

Disappointed in the news that Rehan Ahmed is off to the IPL, replacing Ben Duckett. Good if Duckett plays a bit of red ball, sure. But Rehan is a big part of England's future Test team in my view - maybe he has been given an indication that a recall isn't close. Otherwise this doesn't speak much for his ambition across all formats.

Probably a last throw of the dice for the likes of Hameed and Sibley this season - if their chances aren't gone already. Rew and McKinney look like the only prospects as additions to the batting line-up. Crawley at the crease for Kent against Worcestershire - cue a timely 76 to 'remind people what he can do'.

Subsequent defeats to Ipswich and Hull make it 33 league games without a win, approaching the league 'best' of 36 set by Derby County in 2008, and equalled by Macclesfield ten years later.

Another 'record' Wednesday might set, or equal, is fewest wins in a 46-game season. Rochdale were the last team in win only twice in a season (1973-74), but no side has ever finished a campaign with only a solitary victory.

Finally, Wednesday's last home win was on 21st April last year, 340 days ago. They have two more opportunities to win at home before becoming the first league side to go a full calendar year without doing so. Sunderland set the record at 364 days in 2017.

There's a fourth too, but it will be asterisked - the lowest points haul in a 46-game season is 20 (Doncaster, 1997-98) - Sheffield Wednesday on -6 with their deductions, but would only be on 12 points, with seven games to go, without them.
So, Sheffield Wednesday now 39 games without a win in the Championship, a football league record winless run. They have also become the first team to go a full calendar year without a home league win.

Wednesday need to beat West Brom on the final day of the season to avoid two more records - first team to win only a single game in a 46-game season, and first team not to win a single home match in an entire season.

And their points tally before deductions sits at 15. The 18 they can achieve would also be a record low, in a 'normal' season, beating Doncaster's 20.
