We haven't seen how mobile Rino is and Fraser looks a bit pedestrian so I do think we would need to replace him (ideally)with a player who gets around the pitch as much as he does.

Rinomhota was Cardiff's PotS last year in the Championship... we don’t need to see his mobility

Based majorly on his games at RB - of course he could do a job if Savage goes.

Being reported that Oxford will come back with an improved bid - the way football works these days, you can only imagine they are getting encouragement from Savage's agent that his client will strongly consider the move if a deal can be struck.

That’ll probably mean another 100k  Oxford won’t come back with a bid in the region of £1.5m

However they should be well aware that Reading will want a certain level of wedge to even start a discussion so trying it on with cut price offers will get nowhere.

andrew1957 As we only keep 50% I just cannot see less than 3M being worth even considering. Savage would be a great loss and would have to be replaced which would cost money and so unless the owners are really skint, they would be crazy to sell for less.

Their record fee is in the region of €2m paid for Indonesian international Ole Romeny from Utrecht about a year ago so trying to get them to break that might be a challenge.

I think your £3 million is pie in the sky for a player who has only done ok at a bottom level club and now one in a mid-table 3rd division side.
For that sort of money for a player at this level he would have to be the outstanding player for his club and in the whole division.

A valuation of £1million would probably be on the high side and that is really not enough for us anyway because of the sell-on clause.

Not saying anyone will pay 3M but with the sell on fee anything less and it would not be worth considering. We got 1.8M net for Knibbs so a net 1.5M should be the minimum for Savage.

Confident this will end with Savage signing a new contract.

1.5 Million would be a fair price! we get to keep half which is good money for our current division. Don't get me wrong, i would prefer to keep him and i do think that things are slowly moving in the right direction and the play-offs are within our reach if we continue this momentum. So the big question is do we stick or twist?
A month ago it would have been sell for me! we have ideal replacements in Rhino and Fraser and we didn't look like progressing up the table. Today, it's a keep for now! after our great Christmas form, another striker in place and the gaffer finding his feet i do believe we are now in a better position for a play off push than last season.

My West Brom supporting mate seems to think they have mad an offer for Savage, which has also been rejected. No idea if there is any substance to this at all

I'm not sure that Charlie looked a player worth more than the £500,000 offered yesterday.
Of the "Charlies" I thought that Reading reject Wellens fared much better on the day.

My gosh, player who played for beaten team looks less effective than player who won in one off match.

That's definitely going to change his valuation.

Not sure anybody has bid £500,000 for Wellens so IMHO it is reasonable to make a comparison, as I said "much better on the day" which to any dumbhead implies that it might not always be the case.
So, merely an observation.

BTW do you spend your whole life creating arguments where none exist?

No, correction, please don't reply as we all on here already know the answer.

Doubt Oxford will be able to offer something that makes Savage worth selling, unless they offer a big sell on. Not sure he'll be worth selling unless we make it to the Championship and he keeps high performance levels.

High sell on isn't worth it as Utd will still get 50% of whatever that gets us.

Usually 4 or 5 A’s at A level would be enough.

Still nowhere near what I would consider to be an acceptable fee for him - let alone for a sale to Oxford.
