Well, Arteta was blathering on at the end of last season about how Arsenal had come 2nd with 1pt more the season before (Notwithstanding that Liverpool were already on the beach for the last month of the season) so he was certainly guilty of that.windermereROYAL wrote: ↑04 Jun 2026 08:17Oh that old chestnut, was it the same last term when Liverpool won it on 84? but because it`s Arsenal it`s the poorest quality in 10 years.6ft Kerplunk wrote: ↑03 Jun 2026 09:59 Arsenal won the title this year due to everyone else dropping from their previous standards. Their points total would only have won the league twice in the previous 20 years, its been the poorest quality season since Leicester won.
2010/11 Man U 80pts, 2015/16 Leicester city 81pts, last season Liverpool 84pts.
there`s been three on 86 pts too, but that doesn`t fit the narrative.
Aside from the season when Liverpool came 2nd on 98pts, I think it's safe to say most seasons are won or lost partly because someone performed below expectations.
