Does raise a question though.

How many father/son combinations have made a first team appearance for us

I'm thinking

Dougie & Neil Webb
Martin and Niall Keown
and now potentially Kevin and Kyreece Lisbie.

Any more?
Paul and Jordan Holsgrove but apparently Jordan never made a first team appearance
Another near miss would be Joe Edelston as a manager and son Maurice as a player
Then there’s Denis & Martin Allen as player & manager of wind up japes and did Steve and Stan Wicks ever come close to happening?

Nesta Guinneesss - Walker and Geoff Barker, grandfather & grandson

I'm not sure if it's just nostalgia or just better but I like this good old Reading vibe, where signing someone for 500k is exciting big news.

Like back in the good old days when we were so excited abotu gettign Martin Butler (750k iirc) Caskey (700k iirc) etc

Decent 'cheap' purchases with promise.

Some will shine, many will flop, but so what... good old Reading just how I love it.

I would guess we offered Paddy Lane and some training comes as part ex but only brought the fee down 10% and 8% of that was the cones!

Quick look on Transfermarkt has him down as starting 28 times on the right, 3 on the left and 3 down the middle.

Just listened to Lisbie's first interview and the interviewer, when the main guy isn't there, always sounds so bored. He signed off with "we're excited to see what you do for Reading Football Club", tell it to your voice mate.

Well, we can’t do any more than identify positions we need strengthening, spot players with promise, enter competitive bids and wages, and convince them to come here. If they flop, they flop. There’s no crystal ball in football.

Great signing.

First experienced player who has played under LR before renews contract
Second young promising academy lad signs 3 year extension
Third we appear to be matching fee and wages for a player courted by other teams.
Our activity seems to be on a par with most teams in the division, am looking forward to further additions.
Yeah I’m reserving judgement and not jumping on the hype train over a league two winger with half a good season under his belt. What do you want me to do fall to my knees in awe that we’ve a signed a player from league two Colchester? Now that’s not me saying I don’t like the signing, I think it’s the sort of player we should be going for, young and up and coming. But I’m certainly not going to start sucking Rob’s dick cos we signed someone from league two Colchester pal. :|
I'm not saying he's the new messiah either but obviously other clubs see his potential as well as us so happy to see how it goes. I assume you just don't like admitting you might possibly be wrong, although I'm sure if you are right you'll be rowing from the heights!!

i might be wrong about what? becuase we've signed one player?
ritchie gone
williams gone
MoM gone
burns gone
nyambe gone
keane gone
doyle gone
young gone
Yiadom gone
Elliott gone
Camara gone
Stickland gone
Rushesha gone

and we've signed one player, woop de do!. And as i say this isnt a slight on lisbie, by all accouts he's a good up and coming player. We matched sheff wed and huddersfiled offers - two finacial basket cases.

look im not bashing couhig over this signing. you're the one who tagged me, mentioned me specially, saying how does this fit in with my anti couhig stance . well of course we've signed someone! look at the players that have gone (above) and the wages that have been freed up. Signing players are what football clubs do, im not going to start proclaiming couhig is now amazing becuase we signed a kid from league two colcehester. The signing of lisbie hasnt changed my opinion of couhig. Its the bear minium he should be doing.

Can't argue with that. Especially seeing the list in full again there, a lot of deadwood we needed out. Just have to hope the recruitment improves on all of the above. There's no reason why it shouldn't considering we don't have to get EFL approval for everything and need that many this time around.

It seems to me that people have forgotten what the basic minimum a football club should do. Dai is long gone. But it’s almost as if the years of shitness should be the norm. It was mentioned that the resigning of Rino is something we should be celebrating too. This is just what normal football clubs should be doing. Extending the contract of a players that’s already here is not something I personally will jump
Up and down for joy about. Yes it’s good that he signed but again, it’s a normal thing for a football club to do. As is signing a player. None of this either proves that couhig is doing well or not. It simply shows football club being normal.

Much needed clear out....aside from Doyle (a loanee likely to be championship this season) who else would you have offered a deal to in that list?

Was in Lisbon a month ago and ended up seeing FC Alverca v Estoril Praia. Jordan was Estoril's playmaker and had a pretty decent game, hard to believe he was Paul 'Leadboots' Holsgrove's son.

The fanbase, particularly the younger lads are conditioned to expect shit. So any signing will be a glowing positive and adrenaline rush. I agree it's the least Couhig should be doing - to be honest I was shocked when I heard we were out of the Lisbie race and was worried Couhig won't do the bare minimum we need. I'm still not convinced until I see our first run of games.
