Transfer Deadline Day Rumours

31 August 2017
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Despite completing the big money signing of Fulham forward Sone Aluko earlier this week, rumours continue that Reading might conduct some more business before the summer transfer deadline closes tonight.

Reading have already signed seven players in this transfer window. All seven of those players will be expected to play a major part in the first team squad this season, giving Stam plenty of strength in all departments. The only possible weakness appears to be the lack of an out and out striker as we wait the return of Kermorgant from injury.

Rumours are still bouncing around and according to SBAT football predictions there's the long-running possibility of Norwich City's Nelson Oliveira and Brighton's Tomer Hemed. Oliveira is attracting the interest of Swansea City and is expected to be outside Reading's budget, but Israel international striker Hemed is still being linked with the Royals.

In a Hob Nob Anyone? poll, nearly half of voters expect exactly zero incoming players. After the Royals appear to have already conducted most of their transfer business only 9 percent of voters expect 2 or more players to be arriving today on transfer deadline day.

Meanwhile the club confirmed yesterday that defenders Jordan Obita and Paul McShane have extended their contracts at Reading. Obita now has three years at Reading, while McShane is now contracted until the summer of 2019.

Before the window SLAMS shut.

I'm going for 0, not for a want of trying however. It just seems that two of our main 3 targets are currently at clubs with little other options and Hugill is going to go for way over what he's worth.

I think we will sign a striker, on loan, but it will be none of our current targets.

I'll go for 2. A striker and a complete surprise that Jaap couldnt resist :)

I rdon't cmon we'll end the day on a negative number. A couple out and maybe one in.
Quinn on loan, Weiser departs somewhere or even just contract cancelled. Can't see any other obvious departures although if Harriott was fit I'd loan him until January to get him back match fit.

1. Not too bothered about a striker but would like a cb, maybe on loan to cover for ilori and mcshanes inevitable injuries

reckon 1 in on loan. Quinn and Weiser to depart, Quinn on loan. Couple of the young lads on loan as well - Rinomhota, Smith. Prob keep Axel to cover

See Brentford have accepted a 6m bid for Jota. Surprised if he chooses there as his best option

£6m for Jota is an absolute joke, one of the best players in the league

If I was a Brentford fan I'd be furious

Brentford appear to be in a bit of trouble financially. The plans for their new ground have been scaled back quite significantly and their owner has been talking about cutting back on financial risks. Suspect the sale may be somewhat forced, but given they sold Hogan for a decent sum not that long ago they must be a bit concerned.

I'm really hoping this time we finally get Ian Royal. Every transfer window that goes by without us securing his arrival is a crushing blow and I can't take too many more of those.

Selling Dave Royal was more of a crushing blow methinks.

What happened to Clayton Donaldson? He seems to have disappeared...

Priceless from GR, isn`t he already at Norwich?

Norwich City have been linked with a deadline day move for Derby County striker Cameron Jerome.
However, they will reportedly need to fork out £3 million for the 31-year-old forward.

Got a bad injury which seems to have finished him off

And he must be 33 by now?

Got a feeling it's going to be one of those classic Reading deadline days where we try our hardest but don't manage to get any in. Obviously we need a striker so that's going to be a shame if we can't get one in, but rest of the squad looks good. I've gone for a vote of 1 in the hope we do snag a striker.

I don't think we're desparate for a striker - we tend to play with one up top, and Bodvarsson has looked good there with Kermorgant coming back soon as well.

Would be good if we can get one in but not the end of the world if we don't.

Voted 1 but more in hope than expectation.

I don't understand the people that have elsewhere said they are happy to go without.

If you think we can maintain a sustained promotion push with what we've got then fair enough, id like some of what you're smoking but I think it's imperative we get a striker in with a good goal scoring record. There's no telling when Kermorgant will actually get back and with his age will he be the same player he was before? I think we have enough goals in the team to get by, but it won't be sufficient if we harbour hopes of a promotion challenge imho.

Think it will be 0 - but expect a loan signing instead.

Jota at £6m seems like a great bit of business

 CountryRoyal

» 31 Aug 2017 13:03

Kind of pisses me off that we've gone for Aluko if Jota was available for that.

Agree with that!

liked jota a lot from what I saw last year. But realistically only really performed for 6 months and very limited experience in this country compared to Aluko

but yeah would have happily had him for 6m

Suppose it's difficult to perform well when you were injured for the rest of it.
