Glenn Murray Remains Target

It's already shaping up to be a another disappointing transfer deadline day for Reading fans with possible targets unlikely to complete moves to Reading. It seems the Royals aren't prepared to meet the asking price for a number of players they are targeting - a story that will be reminiscent of past transfer deadline days. Dean Hammond, Yun Suk-Young and John Fleck have all been linked to Reading but none of them are expect to sign for the Royals.

Glenn Murray, a subject of plenty of speculation a full month ago, appears to still be the subject of negotiations between Reading and Crystal Palace. It was reported last month that Palace turned down a three million pound bid. The forward struggled with injury at the start of last season but recovered to feature in the last part of the season. Palace paid 300,000 for Murray from Brighton in the summer of 2011. Murray banged in plenty of goals in the 2012/2013 season but managed just a single goal last season in 14 appearances.

Since Reading's last rumoured bid Murray has played three times, including Saturday's 3-3 Premier League draw at Newcastle United. The new bid is reported to be just 1.5 million this time around, which gives plenty of support to the argument that this is going to be another transfer turned down with the Royals failing to offer enough. Add on to that the news that Murray is being linked with other sides in the Championship and it could be another one that got away.

Giving some support to the news that Murray could be on his way is the news that former Reading striker Kevin Doyle could move to Palace on-loan from Wolves today. But if Murray does move to Reading for 1.5 million you'd have to question the move given his rapidly declining value, and strike rate, since injury.
